Stanley Origins
Thomas Stanley the Machinist

Not a direct ancestor but a significant character in the story of the Chipping Norton Stanley family.

The son of Thomas Stanley & Elizabeth Miles and elder brother of my ancestor Samuel Stanley, baptised in Chipping Norton in 1822.

Thomas Stanley married Alice (maiden name unknown) in Brailes, Warwicks., in 1846. They had five children.

  • Henry James (1846 - 1914)
  • William Tom (1848 - 1934)
  • illegible female (1854 - aft 1861)
  • Eliza Louisa (1860 - aft 1925)
  • Lem (?) (1861 - aft 1871)

The family continued to live in Brailes until the early 1850s when they returned to Chipping Norton. Thomas had many occupations through his working life, blacksmith, general smith, machinist, beer retailer & engineer.

I am particularly interested to hear from any descendants of any of these lines, please contact me now.
