Stanley Origins
Robert Stanley, Chipping Campden

Robert was baptised in Chipping Campden in 1690 the son of Anthony Stanley & Emma. Not much is known of his early life.

We think he married three times. Firstly to Elizabeth Hornsley in Willersey, 1610. They had no issue recorded at the time Elizabeth died in 1716. However there is one child baptised three months later and this would appear to belong to Robert & Elizabeth, evidentally Elizabeth had died in childbirth.

  • Hannah (1716 - 1733)

Robert quickly remarried in the same year, 1716. His second wife being Sarah Moseley (bef 1698 - 1736). The couple were married in Campden in 1716. They had eight children all baptised in Campden.

  • Richard (1718 - aft 1747)
Married Elinor Freeman in Campden, 1736. Their descendants lived in Birmingham, Broadway, Ilmington, Oxford, Aston-sub-edge, Snowshill, Childswickham, Shipston-on-Stour & Leamington.
  • Robert (1720 - aft 1754)
Married Joanna Walton in Campden, 1740. Their descendants lived in Quinton, Mickleton, Birmingham, Wiltshire, Dorset, Kent, Hertfordshire & Sydney, NSW. Some still alive today.
  • William (1722 - aft 1776)
Married Elizabeth Godward in Campden, 1740. Their descendants lived in Campden, Saintbury, Weston-sub-edge & Birmingham
  • John (1724 - bef 1819)
  • Thomas (1726 - aft 1772)
  • Anthony (1730 - 1793)
Married Anna Huggins in Cuddesdon, Oxon., 1751. Their descendants lived in Cuddesdon, Harbury, Wheatley, Banbury, Oxford & New Zealand.
  • Sarah (1734 - 1735)

Sarah died in 1736 and Robert subsequently married again to Elizabeth Watts in the same year. They had one son.

  • John (1739 - aft 1763)
Married Elizabeth Care in Willersey, 1763. No offspring known.

Robert died and was buried in Chipping Campden in 1758 aged 67, but his line continued.
